is a partnership with Portsmouth Health Department (PHD), Bon Secours Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth Department of Behavioral Healthcare Services, Portsmouth Department of Social Services, Eastern Virginia Medical School Brickell Library, Portsmouth Family Medicine, and Portsmouth Emergency Medical Services. HWIC is funded by a grant from Portsmouth General Hospital Foundation.

The Health and Wellness Information Center @ your Portsmouth Public Library (HWIC) is a safe place for everyone to find accurate information about their health concerns. The mission of the information center is to help Portsmouth residents find information regarding their health concerns and connect them to health resources within the community. The vision of the information center is every person is empowered to invest in their health through quality health resources and services.

Your HWIC is located at the Main Library on 601 Court Street. Staff who have completed consumer health information specialization will be on-hand on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 – 5 pm to help you. Books and other materials are available during normal library hours. For more information call 393-8501.

Access Partnership – is a community collaboration of medical providers, charities, universities, churches, civic groups, free clinics, community health centers, departments of health, community service boards and social services departments and a broad representation of volunteers. The Partnership is focused on strengthening existing programs, implementing new services for identified gaps and coordinating care for low-income families.

Bon Secours Care-A-Van – The Bon Secours Care-A-Van is a free medical service that provides general medical care to uninsured adults and children in Hampton Roads communities on the south side and the peninsula.

Healthy Portsmouth – is a city-wide health and wellness initiative led by a group of community leaders committed to changing the policies, systems and environments that affect our neighborhoods, schools and workplaces in order to improve the health of citizens in Portsmouth, VA.

Portsmouth Behavioral Healthcare Services – Serving the Portsmouth Community Providing mental health, intellectual disability, substance abuse and co-occurring services to the citizens of Portsmouth since 1969.

Portsmouth Department of Parks and Rec Fitness Schedules – Classes free and open to all fitness levels. Ages 18 & up. Center registration required. Times and locations will vary. Classes include: Zumba, Zumba Gold, MAXFIT 250, Line Dancing, Tone 20/20, Yoga, Step and Cardio. For information on adult exercise classes please call 393-8481. Classes begin in mid October.

Portsmouth Virginia Cooperative Extension Office – Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, Portsmouth Virginia Cooperative Extension Office helps the people of City of Portsmouth improve their lives. Tidewater Area NA – Narcotics Anonymous is a global, community-based organization with a multi-lingual and multicultural membership. NA offers recovery from the effects of addiction through working a twelve-step program, including regular attendance at group meetings. The group atmosphere provides help from peers and offers an ongoing support network for addicts who wish to pursue and maintain a drug-free lifestyle.
